The finest ruby gemstone comes from Burma and Thailand, which produce brownish red varieties. Ruby from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Vietnam present bright red stones. Ruby from North Carolina (USA), Australia, Russia, India and Norway are dark in color and can be opaque occasionally.
