Jadeite: Till 1863, only jadeite was considered as jade when the other variety nephrite was found. Jadeite is made up of interlocking granules of pyroxene crystals and is found in variety of colors. The most valuable jade, which is known as the “imperial jade” is a rich emerald-green color, which is due to the chromium content. Jadeite has a greasy to pearly luster and exhibits a dimpled surface when polished.
Locations:
Jadeite is mainly found in Burma. The other important locality was Guatemala. Jadeite is also found in California (USA) and Japan.
